Texas State Capitol Dome Restoration
In 2010, an extensive restoration project was undertaken to address critical exterior issues of the Capitol building, focusing on the metal dome and roof. This endeavor was essential to preserve the structural integrity and historical value of the building. The most critical aspect of the exterior work involved comprehensive repairs to the metal dome and roof. This included addressing structural weaknesses, refurbishing metal components, and ensuring long-term durability. Scaffolding was erected to cover the entire dome and cupolas. The dome was repainted to match the distinctive Texas Sunset Red granite, ensuring aesthetic consistency with the rest of the Capitol building. Additional project components included:
-
Water-Proofing: Substantial water-proofing measures were implemented to protect the structure from future water damage, enhancing the building's resilience against the elements.
-
Asbestos Removal: As part of the refurbishment, asbestos was carefully removed to ensure the safety and health of workers and future occupants.
-
Metal Refurbishing: Detailed work on metal elements included cleaning, repairing, and restoring them to their original condition, preserving the historical character of the building.
