The Austonian Slab Edge Repairs
The Austonian, once the tallest building in Austin and the tallest residential building west of the Mississippi River, faced a significant structural issue when a six-foot-long piece of concrete fell from the 59-story building. A survey revealed 31 additional locations showing signs of distress along the exposed slab edges, raising safety concerns for residents and nearby property. The owners engaged CPM Texas to investigate the cause and develop repair solutions. Working closely with the structural engineer and general contractor, the team led by CPM identified the systemic issue and created a comprehensive repair plan. The plan included novel materials and multiple layers of protection to address 9,200 linear feet of exposed slab edges. The repairs mitigated further damage, ensured safety, and restored the building's durability and real estate value.
